The Blazing Tiger Set was a skill level 1 yo-yo marketed to children, ages 5+. The entire Blazing Team product line was a large marketing effort by Hasbro to bring yo-yo play to very young children.
This set included a quick-release yo-yo holster, a Battlespin yo-yo with tiger image sidecaps; an animal spirit ring that appears to be a tiger; a lycra cloth "Power Sleeve" that a child wore on the forearm of their yo-yoing arm. The yo-yo featured a retractable string for easy play, much like Empire Industries' YoYo Ball toy.
Yo-yo, holster, and sleeve styling were inspired by Parker, the action hero character from the Blazing Team animation series.
Blazing Team was an animated boys action-adventure series that first aired in 2015 on the Discovery Family cable channel. The show's premise is that a mysterious “darkness†rises; a group of teens join together to harness the mystical power of "Yo Kwon Do"--a practice that defeats evil by blending the skill of yo-yos with the martial art of Tae Kwon Do. The series was originally based on the Chinese animated series "Blazing Teens" that first aired in 2006 in Asian countries.
The Blazing Team product line, combined with the animated series, filled a market niche in that their yo-yos were designed with young children in mind who were new to yo-yo play; they were also affordable, fun, and interesting to use. The yo-yos helped children develop their hand/eye coordination, and the discipline needed to master a skill. As young players became accomplished, they would build more confidence at each stage or level. At the time, there was no other yo-yo product line quite like it. | |
