An interesting and hard to find tin yo-yo made by Orianna Metal Products Inc. (Business address was: Orianna Metal Products Inc., 109-121 N. Orianna St., Philadelphia 6, Pennsylvania.)
Orianna was incorporated in February, 1941. The address printed on the yo-yo uses a number to indicate the postal zone within Philadelphia (in this case, 6) indicating that this yo-yo was manufactured between 1943 and 1963. Because tin was in short supply during World War II and several years afterward, in all likelihood, this yo-yo was probably produced sometime in the late 1940s to the mid 1950s. The yo-yo does not use the term "yo-yo" anywhere on the body halves and there is no other identifying name other than "Ori-O Toys for Girls and Boys". Ori-O was a toy brand name and is found printed on other vintage Ori-O metal toy products.
Reminiscent of the Duncan tin yo-yos, this tin yo has orange, pink, black, and white coloring.
It is unknown how many years Orianna remained in business. However, in 2010, a website claimed that Orianna Metal Products--at virtually the same physical address as the original 1941 location--opened its doors for business. | |
