"The Card" is a custom designed butterfly yo-yo from the mind and talent of Japan's Shinobu Konmoto. Shown in this exhibit is a replica of the modular yo-yo package created by Mr. Konmoto that helped him win the 2008 World Yo-Yo Mod Contest with a score of 580 points out of a possible 600. By assembling the various Card parts and then using two socket cap screws to hold everything together, you can create a mini butterfly ball bearing yo-yo, complete with (optional?) plastic hub stacks. The 62 gram total weight gets its heft from a brass ring that is press fit into a machined groove on the underside of each red aluminum body ring. The yo-yo uses a size A ball bearing. When you are done playing, you can disassemble the yo-yo and neatly store the parts inside its business card sized aluminum briefcase. The overall case is about the size of a wallet—it easily fits into your pocket. Any minor flaws in the parts, such as very small scratches or pinprick size dots or smaller of missing anodizing, are the direct result of The Card being entirely handmade by Mr. Konmoto himself.
If James Bond 007 were a yo-yo enthusiast, no doubt the Card would be his bandalore of choice, as endorsed by "Q". One of the most unique and exotic production yo-yos in this museum (besides the B.I.S.T. Stradavari).
Quantity produced is unknown (rumored to be 35, but that is unconfirmed). Hard to find. Another publicly released version of this model exists with the SpinGear logo engraved in the center of each black aluminum sidecap.
Shinobu Konmoto, who also goes by "s.kon", is most popularly known in the world of yos as a highly skilled modder and an innovative designer of unique, boutique yo-yos, each handmade in very limited quantities.
