An oversized, solid walnut Duncan yo-yo with a "piano finish". Does not have any logo or other identifying marks on it. Came gift boxed. Note the over-sized yo-yo string.
From a 1963 Duncan brochure for the Executive yo-yo:
"The Executive Yo-Yo Return Top tames the brute in a man – brings out the boy in him – aids relaxed executive forecasting of the ups and downs for 1963. A wonderful conversation piece – an excellent paperweight – the last word for the man who wants everything."
A newspaper article describing the Duncan Executive yo-yo:
"Donald Duncan, Inc., toy manufacturer in Evanston [Illinois], offers the Executive Yo-Yo for $7.95. It is made of solid walnut, measures 4 1/2" in diameter, and the Big Man's initials are affixed in silver at no extra cost. It will help him in those awful hours of decision when next year's budget is being finalized, and it is guaranteed to break the tension when the board meeting reaches an impasse. When the string finally wears out it will serve as a fine paperweight."
Of interest...
The gift box that the yo-yo comes in actually reveals some unique information. Note the crest on the box top, to the right of the yo-yo name (see the "Gift box" picture). It's the crest badge of Captain Andrew Charles Duncan. The crest depicts a ship under full sail per pale Gules & Or, sails and rigging Argent. The crest is surrounded by a belt and buckle. The motto is "Disce Pati" (pronounced dees-kay, PAH-tee), Latin for "learn to suffer". The crest badge was granted by Her Majesty's Supreme Office of Arms of Scotland, The Lord Lyon, King of Arms, June, 1963. A very unusual design element for a gift box that contains a yo-yo.
