This was the first Peak ever made, the predecessor of all other Peaks, as it was the very first of the 6 prototype Peaks to ever be machined, and for that matter the very first yoyo to ever be created by Caribou Lodge YoYo Works. The prototype Peaks however, didn’t play quite right, and Chris with dremel in hand, immediately modified this Prototype Peak #0000 by widening the response groove on one half, which made a huge difference. Even though up to 10 months of design work had been done before the prototypes were machined, the width of the response groove was simply too narrow affecting playability. At the time, it was the industry standard width, which would allow for Dif-pads. The modification by Chris was quite a blessing and the first act of CLYW pioneering history, as he decided to take action with modifying the narrow response groove, and was forced to go wide. This was the direction the industry was about to go in… the "flow groove". So many models of yoyos transitioned from response pad to flow groove in 2008/2009, but because of this quick action by Chris, the Peak got to skip that transition all together. CLYW was a whole 2 years ahead of the game, and may have been a factor in other companies deciding to transition from response pad to flow groove. After widening one half of prototype Peak #0000 with a dremel and fixing the issue, the other 5 prototypes went back to the machine shop to have the response groove widened. Chris did not modify the other half of proto #0000, nor did he take that half back to the machine shop, so both halves of this proto #0000 are unique and show not only where the response groove was modified and widened by hand, but also allows us to see an original half with the more narrow Dif-pad sized response groove as it was originally created. | |
