In mid-2008, James Buffington, of Throw Down Yo-Yo's product development team, began to hand-turn and release a rosewood version of the popular Throw Down Luchador yo-yo.
The Wooden Luchador weighed in at 54g, and featured a simple twist-adjust gap. Although initially, the Wooden Luchadors were all fixed wood axle yo-yo's, Buffington later sold examples with take-apart, ball-bearing construction.
The yo-yo was packaged in the same burlap bag as the original Luchador, along with a card detailing the specs of the yo-yo, wrapped around its circumference.
