A beautiful and hard to find Cheerio award patch from approximately the early 50s. White and blue embroidering on red felt.
This particular patch originally came from the former Duncan, Cheerio, Royal, and Fliback yo-yo demonstrator Tom Parks. Note that the patch does not contain the word "Yo-Yo". This is an important distinction from another similar Cheerio 24 Trick Award patch in this museum. For many years, using the word "Yo-Yo" by any yo-yo company other than Duncan was off-limits due to trademark ownership by Duncan. It wasn't until the late 50s and early 60s that other yo-yo manufacturers, such as Royal, began to challenge the trademark usage and ultimately began using "Yo-Yo" in their own products (making those products "younger" than those that do not have the word "Yo-Yo" in them). Duncan lost the "Yo-Yo" trademark in the mid 60s. However, it is still a protected trademark in Canada.
