A beautiful and very clean example of a large Duncan shield patch from 1940. The size is about the same as those of Duncan patches from the 30s. Beginning in 1948, after a five year hiatus, Duncan shield patches began to wither in size. By 1959, these year patches were roughly half the size of the early year patches.
Many of these yearly shield patches, excluding the one show in this exhibit, were sewn by mothers onto the front of their childs sweater or t-shirt. Old black and white photographs of yo-yo contests often show the shield patch being worn proudly by a young boy or girl.
