In 1904, at the St. Louis Worlds Fair, a bandalore was made to commemorate the event. The Manufacturer is unknown. You can't call it a yo-yo technically, because it is too old. The term "yo-yo" only was used to name our favorite toy after Pedro Flores came to the USA and created Flores Yo-Yos.

This 1904 Bandalore has a lot of special distinctions in the yo-yo collecting world. First, it is the OLDEST dated yo-yo known, and the OLDEST yo-yo made to commemorate an event. I only know of one of these still in existance. If any other collectors out there have one in the collection, please contact me and correct me. But the only one I've ever seen or heard of was displayed in the Proyo Museum in Tucson, Arizona.

It was a primitive design. Very heavy, made from a cast iron with glazed coating. It measured about 3.5 inches in diameter and was very slim. An archaic design from over 100 years ago.

In 2006, the current owner of the original decided to make 100 reproductions of this famous item. Pictured here is one of these reproductions, made to look and feel exactly like the original. Even the weight is nearly identical.

Yes collectors, there is a simple way to tell a repro from an original. This is so close in appearance to an original that it will be difficult to tell the difference. The originals were made from cast iron, while the repros have a brass inner construction. Put a magnet to a repro, and it will NOT stick. But a magnet will stick to an original.
