The Voltex looping yo-yo with a size K ball bearing axle and starburst response. This limited edition model was produced for Spin Gear by Yo-Yo Joker of Japan, and originally sold at the Niigata Yo-Yo Contest (NYC) (accessed February 10, 2024) held December 2023.

From spingear.jp:
"The yo-yo itself is still made in Hachioji by Yo-Yo Joker, and the bearings and spacers are made in China (gold-colored anodized). There is no change in the ease of looping play.

What is vortex?
A domestic looping model released by Yo-Yo Joker, which was active as a domestic Japanese yo-yo brand.

It uses a unique metal spacer mechanism and is highly rigid, making it popular with everyone from beginners to competitors.

This spacer creates the rigidity unique to Vortex. (This version has gold spacers)

While the spacer on a typical looping yo-yo is dish-shaped, the spacer on the Vortex is embedded into the body, ensuring a wide joint area, resulting in a yo-yo that feels solid and rigid.

The result was a significant improvement in accuracy by solving the problem that often occurs with mass-produced 2A (looping) yo-yo models. It seems natural for yo-yos to have parallel left and right bodies, but when it comes to plastic models, there are individual differences that affect the feel of the loop.

The size of the spacer is determined specifically for the loop on the assumption that 100% polyester string is used, so it can be used immediately without replacing the spacer or making complicated adjustments, and the usability is very stable, making it ideal for performers. It is also a popular model.

About the yo-yo's control edge
In addition, the height of the control edge is unique, and the looping trajectory is stabilized by the shape of the yo-yo itself, making it the perfect solution for beginners to master the feeling of looping. In 2015, it increased the light 2A population. It was also the model that inspired me.

The control edge is the green part of a looping yo-yo.

The rounder this part is, the lower the control edge is, and the more squared it is, the higher the control edge. Neither is better or worse than the other, but as the name suggests, the higher the control edge, the easier it is to control the loop, making it easier to perform classic looping tricks.

However, when you become a very advanced player, there are some techniques that are difficult to perform unless the edges are rounded. If the trajectory is too fixed with the control edge, you may feel stuck when turning freely or changing direction. Many 2A players have mastered loops with rounded yo-yos, so they naturally acquire "control techniques," but beginners and intermediate players must pay attention to control or the loop trajectory will not be stable. There are certain hurdles to practicing with a general competition 2A yo-yo. (This is a skill that you will eventually have to master)

Although it doesn't look much different in this photo (compared to Starburst), the Vortex has a much higher edge than other looping yo-yos.

By using Vortex, you can easily master a beautiful loop trajectory guided by the edges.

The Control Edge is a shape proposed by US yo-yo professional Dale Oliver and intentionally adopted when he created the Terminator Technique looping yo-yo to improve the drawbacks of the Playmaxx Pro-Yo where he was a former demonstrator. Since then, it has come to be recognized as one of the key points of 2A yo-yo design.

High level injection molding technology
A rare domestically produced Japanese plastic yo-yo. This is commonplace now, but by placing the gate in a position where it cannot be seen, a very clean finish with no unevenness is achieved. Also, by applying pressure evenly from the center, the weight is well-balanced.

Because there is little variation in cap size between each yo-yo, the side cap fits perfectly without adhesive, the "clack" that is an unpleasant element of looping yo-yos is suppressed, giving it a solid feel. Although it is a plastic yo-yo, it is made using a high-level injection technology that allows for precision that exceeds that of a toy.

About the 2023 edition (seen in this exhibit)
It can be said that the Vortex sparked a competition to develop 2A models from various brands, but most of them have a rounded shape, have a firm control edge like the Vortex, and models that do not require adjustment are on the market. It disappeared from. There were also requests for continued sales even when dead stock was being sold, and since the molds had been preserved in usable condition, we were looking for a way to continue selling them.

Also, at the time, it was said that the yo-yo was made domestically, but there was no announcement as to where it was manufactured, but in fact, it was manufactured at the Hachioji factory where Soroham Co., Ltd. is headquartered, so the yo-yo was made in Hachioji. We would like to continue selling yo-yos as an opportunity to popularize yo-yos in Hachioji City. Spin Gear has recently received sales permission from YoYo Joker and has resumed sales."
