The Tom Kuhn 2000 - Celebrate Life! (Limited Edition). Dyed, laminated maple in blue, teal/mint, and natural. Fixed-axle. Used a silver-foil cap stamp that was unique to this model. Made by BC/What’s Next Mfg. in New York, circa 1999–2000. Laminated wood appeared often in BC’s product line, but this particular Tom Kuhn edition is now quite hard to find.
The package included a small trick booklet, one spare cotton string, and a drawstring velour pouch.
Dr. Tom Kuhn offered these directly to the Spin Doctors Yo-Yo Club (aka Spindox) members at meet-ups in Alameda, California, starting in 1998. To my knowledge, no online or brick-and-mortar yo-yo store carried this model.
Interestingly, when I purchased the yo-yo in this exhibit, it was located in West Des Moines, Iowa. The other two versions in this museum that are listed under my name, were purchased from the original owner in San Leandro, California (East Bay), a few miles from the Alameda club site and about 19 miles east of Tom’s home in San Francisco. The clear display case lacks a branded header card, consistent with pieces not packaged through BC/What’s Next retail channels.
