The original limited edition Duncan FreeHand Zero from about 2007-2011 known as the Yo-Yos are for Cool Kids -- Throw Duncan edition designed by the late Paul Escolar. Paul also chose the "mint" color combination for the yo-yo. Came with the Duncan Panda head (there were six different character counterweights you could collect), one yellow ball, and one blue dice.
The yo-yo itself used a ball bearing axle, had a take-apart design, and used Duncan Friction Stickers for the response. You could adjust the string gap using one of the two included sets of shims: silver spacers for a standard string gap for original yo-yo play, and brass spacers for a wide string gap for dead response play.
Duncan re-released this same model again on April 28, 2022, in updated packaging that included just one counterweight: a clear dice. Slight changes were also made to the side cap imprint that included a quality control code.
Paul Escolar was a 1A freestyle yo-yo player, member of Duncan Crew (a group of paid, traveling yo-yo demonstrators sponsored Duncan), yo-yo trick inventor, and contest judge. He passed away Sunday, April 18, 2021.
