Magic made by Alivola, a kite/toy company started by Guido Accascina of Italy. Guido graduated with a degree in engineering and is primarily known for his kite designs. However, in 2000, during the yo-yo boom across North America, Japan, and Europe, he used his engineering background to create the aluminum Magic, released by his company Alivola. The model was not a big success however (unresponsive, dead yo-yos were just starting to come onto the yo-yo scene) and Guido returned to his primary passion: kites. Today (2020), the Magic is a very hard-to-find yo-yo. In terms of yo-yo history, it's quite an interesting example of early modern Italian yo-yo design. After the Magic's release, it was several years before another Italian yo-yo company, Oxygene, actually made it big on the yo-yo scene.
The Magic's design is reminiscint of the Mondial and the Moonstar made by the German yo-yo maker Came-Yo in the late 90s with its bulging hub nubs and rubber rings mounted on the perimeter of each halve. Unlike the Came-Yo Mondial, however, the gap adjustment on the Magic was nearly identical to the Moonstar with its rubber rings that let you rotate the halves slightly (similar to a YoYoFactory Loop 808). Used a size K ball bearing axle. You could completely disassemble the Magic for either modding or maintenance. It's unknown if a patent was ever assigned. Very interesting -- and obscure -- design.
The Magic was released about March, 2000 but was relatively unknown in North America.
