The standard version of the Pro-Yo Roadster by Playmaxx. This model was the first ever "engineered" one-piece wooden yo-yo. It was made slightly oversized with weight distribution. Along with early Spintastics Technic yo-yos this model was my personal all-time favorite looping yo-yo. With no moving parts and nothing to disassemble, replace, lube, or tune, this model was the epitome of perfect form and function, stripped down to just two components: string and yo-yo.
In the mid 1920s Pedro Flores designed a one-piece wood yo-yo. The high performance of the Flores yo-yo was linked to the control of the string gap during its manufacture. Generally, most multi-piece wooden yo-yos are unable to hold to such a tight and consistent gap tolerance. This art, used until the mid 1960s, was eventually lost over the years as manufacturers adopted the cheaper glued three-piece method of construction. Playmaxx (and American Spinners in the early 90s) re-engineered the one-piece wooded yo-yo to be a state-of-the-art high performance wood yo-yo for the 21st century. Made from a single piece of American hard Maple, the Roadster was one of the best looping wooden yo-yos ever made. There has never been an equivalent since then.
