Sponsors and Curators
The Museum of Yo-Yo History is a labor of love, and we would not be able to stay up-to-date with exhibits without the support of our sponsors and curators. Big thanks go to One Drop Design and Duncan for supplying us with their latest models, YoYoExpert for their help and support, and to Cody Orr, TotalArtist and YoYoBrothers™ for allowing us to use their collections!
If you're a manufacturer, or just a big collector and you want to help support the Museum drop me at line at chimera@yoyomuseum.com

Spingear's SpinX 4-in-1. A remarkable toy designed by 3x World Yo-Yo Champion Takahiko (aka Taka) Hasegawa of Japan who is also owner of spingear.jp website. This pocket-sized mini yo-yo could also be used as a spin top, fidget spinner, and gyroscope.
The SpinX began as a Kickstarter project (accessed June 11, 2024) that kicked off on April 03, 2022 with a goal of raising ¥200,000.
The project reached 100% funding goal the next day, April 04, 2022 with 116 backers who pledged a combined total of ¥2,267,088 (about $16,670 US) to help bring the toy to life. SpinX shipped by June 19, 2022. Takahiko's commitment to transparency and regular project updates (more than 23 updates were emailed by Takahiko to backers during the project's total 2.5 month span) exemplified how a successful Kickstarter project should be conducted. The final product was shipped by June 19, 2022
From the SpinX Kickstarter webpage:
"The earth is spinning.
When we spin things on this earth where we are, a mysterious force is generated. When you spin the top, it stands while spinning. It will not fall over until it stops spinning. This is not magic, but a physical phenomenon that happens in reality.
Many spinning toys have been made over the years to use this phenomenon. One day, Taka realized that they were all the same, except for the direction of rotation.
The planner is Taka, a former 3x world yo-yo champion and yo-yo master who produces the Spin Gear brand as a designer of spinning toys. He also runs a store in Tokyo.
Following the success of his previous project, YenSpin, Taka teamed up with Tokyo-based CNC factory Mitsumi Seisakusho's masterful manufacturing technology and the world's highest level of precision miniature bearings made by NSK Micro precision to release this project.
This is the beginning of a challenge to put into shape the philosophy of rotation that I have acquired in my 20-year career.
Watch SpinX, yoyo core demo play (1 minute, 6 seconds).
• Yo-Yo:
First, I made a pocket-sized yo-yo that was easy to use.
I've been working with yo-yos for over 20 years, have been a world champion three times, and have been designing yo-yos for a long time, so this part was easy for me.
I also have a yo-yo brand that specializes in the 66% small size, so I had plenty of know-how.
Final production will have clear plastic hub-stack(not yellow like picture) and 18K gold plated surface. The prototype is raw brass and it will rust.
• Spin Top:
The stability you can find with the yo-yo is based on the same principle as the Spin Top.
We have added a mechanism to turn it sideways. We were able to fully utilize the know-how of our previous product, the YenSpin.
• Fidget Spinner:
The two bearings on the side of the yo-yo are designed to hold the body in hand and it allows spinning.
The way the bearings are nest and the parts that cover the bearings use the Hub Stack system designed by YoYoFactory. This configuration makes it a Fidget Spinner.
• Gyroscope:
3-in-1 is good enough, but if I use the same mechanism and attach a frame to the hand spinner, will it become a gyroscope?
This is where the prototyping begins.
Watch Gyro Capsule text (1 minute, 25 seconds)
We have started prototyping a gyroscope using parts made with a 3D printer and toys of capsule.
However, because we could not ensure the accuracy of the rotational speed, we had to give up using a 3D printer so we could mass-produce the gyroscope.
If this is personal hobby, it works and fun to make adjustment. I found it is fun made by 3D printer, so to make better version of GYRO parts we worked with a factory engineer.
The 3D data will be made public, so you can complement this project yourself as your hobby!
After a lot of trial and error we decided to use all machined parts.
Thus, the SPINX was completed, which combines four spinning gadgets in a single yo-yo core.
The production version was gold-plated to prevent the brass from rusting/oxidizing.

Introducing our team
About the Mawaru-ism project (Mawaru means spin in Japanese).
This job is a manufacturing project using a lathe machine and a bearings. In the past, we have made high-end hand fidget spinners, gyroscopes with ball bearings, Tokyo Gyro, and the double pendulum with bearing, Chaos Makers. Our first, previous project on Kickstarter was YenSpin.
Yo-Yo champion × CNC factory × ball bearing factory collaboration.
This collaboration was between three companies, and despite the fact that we were unable to travel due to the Covid-19 crisis, we need to proceed with most of this project without face-to-face meetings because we wanted to keep things moving and never stop.
We would be happy if you could feel our message that we are still a team and can work even though we are far apart.
About the reward
We have two options: One is just the yo-yo core. You can play yo-yo and it has a side bearing, so you can play Fidget Spinner. And, if you have interest in the Spin Top, you can choose to add on the 'Axle for Spin Top.'
The second option is the 'Full set.' You can have fun with all function with do-it-yourself assembly."
Original retail price on spingear.jp website: ¥25,300 (about $161 US on June 11, 2024)
