The Museum of Yo-Yo History is a labor of love, and we would not be able to stay up-to-date with exhibits without the support of our sponsors and curators. Big thanks go to One Drop Design and Duncan for supplying us with their latest models, YoYoExpert for their help and support, and to Cody Orr, TotalArtist and YoYoBrothers™ for allowing us to use their collections!

A hard-to-find 3-color Duncan 15 trick Bronze Award patch earned by Gerald Schick.

If you are a yo-yo patch collector, this one may already look vaguely familiar to you. The reason is because another 15 trick Silver Award patch with a similar design was made by Duncan several years earlier -- about 1957 or 1958. That design is slightly larger and more common to find than the patch design in this exhibit.

Numbered award patches were usually not won in competitions with other kids, exclusively. Rather, they were earned when a player successfully complete the number of required tricks to earn the patch. In this case, the player -- having already earned the 8 trick patch -- had to complete seven intermediate level tricks to earn the 15 trick patch. So, in one sense, you were simply competing against yourself.

Contrary to what others have claimed or even visually depicted in auctions, these 8- and 15-trick award patches with this same design theme did not go with the Duncan chevron-shaped award patch set. Stylistically, they were very different designs. (However, that often didn't prevent kids from adding them to a sweater, shirt, or jacket anyway.)
