Sponsors and Curators
The Museum of Yo-Yo History is a labor of love, and we would not be able to stay up-to-date with exhibits without the support of our sponsors and curators. Big thanks go to One Drop Design and Duncan for supplying us with their latest models, YoYoExpert for their help and support, and to Cody Orr, TotalArtist and YoYoBrothers™ for allowing us to use their collections!
If you're a manufacturer, or just a big collector and you want to help support the Museum drop me at line at chimera@yoyomuseum.com

A very hard-to-find 3-color Duncan 8 trick Bronze Award patch earned by Gerald Schick.
If you are a yo-yo patch collector, this one may already look familiar to you. The reason is because another 8 trick Bronze Award patch (version 1) with a very similar design was made by Duncan several years earlier -- about 1957 or 1958. That design was slightly larger and more common to find than the patch design in this exhibit.
Numbered award patches were usually not won in competitions with other kids. Rather, they were earned when a player successfully complete the number of required tricks to earn the patch. In this case, the player had to complete eight tricks (such as Sleeper, Walk the Dog, Around the World, and so on). In one sense, you were really just competing against yourself.
See also the Duncan 15 trick Silver Award patch, version 2 that has the same design theme as the patch in this exhibit.
Contrary to what others have claimed or visually depicted in auctions, these 8- and 15-trick award patches with this same design theme did not go with the Duncan chevron-shaped award patch set. Stylistically, they were very different designs, but that often didn't prevent kids from adding them to a sweater, shirt, or jacket. | |
