The Hummingbird Trickster was the first production model made from laminated dyed wood. Wood strips dyed in various colors were laminated together, to create the unique designs in the natural wood. Lamination also created a slightly heavier, but stronger product, and was much less resistant to long term shrinkage and warping than yo-yo halves made from one piece of wood. Hummingbird went out of business in 1994. While the Trickster model did not have special names for the various colored laminated versions that were made, I imagine this model could have been called the "Freedom" Trickster because of its patriotic colors of red, natural, and blue. Very hard to find this model in its original--and old--Hummingbird packaging. The packaging was Hummingbird's first design.

Original retail price: $7 US.
