A downside to some BC/What's Next-era yo-yos is that the clear coat eventually begins to show a web of micro-cracks--also known as checking. See the close-up picture. This effect is often caused by a variety of reasons such as excessive heat or humidity during initial application and curing of the clear coat. Or, applying too much clear coat too quickly.
